Forest Hills is bounded by Grand Central Parkway to the east, Selfridge Street, 67th Avenue and 102d Street to the west. The Long Island Expressway is to the north and to the south is Union Turnpike. Dutch farmers were the first European settlers of the area. It began to assume its modern shape in 1904 when it was known as Whitepot and Cord Meyer, a local businessman, began developing land to the east of what is now Queens Boulevard. In 1909, development of an exclusive private enclave, Forest Hills Gardens, began to the west of the boulevard. There, the Forest Hills Dwelling Company marketed 11-room, two-bath houses for $2,300 in cash and $100 a month until 1932. The houses were built around 1922, so buyers probably paid a total of $14,300.
